SUSAN BARBOREK

Susan Barborek

Personal Insight:
Inspired by the quote "You can have it all – just not all at once," (Maria Shriver). Likes to try new forms of physical fitness – currently exploring Pilates and Thai massage. Anxious to travel and experience the world with her husband and two children. Feels professionally reinvigorated by creating a company. Next professional goal is to pursue coaching certification. Most proud of being a role model for her daughter.

Special Expertise:
Twenty years of consulting experience in human capital management, strategic planning, business process analysis and improvement, facilitation, change management and organizational analysis for public and private sector clients. An MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of West Florida, a BA in Psychology and Communication from the University of Michigan and the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation. Graduate of the Northern Virginia SHRM Mentoring Program.

Career Highlights – So Far:
As a Managing Principal of The Legacy Network, managed competency development/implementation for a key government intelligence organization, trained a private sector affirmative action consulting workforce to be more capable facilitators and trainers to improve customer service and worked with a poor performing business unit within an international corporation to create a roadmap to improve organizational performance. Prior to founding TLN, as a Senior Manager at IBM Business Consulting Services, developed a strategic plan for Department of Energy’s Office of Counter Intelligence, redesigned and implemented a new organizational structure for a financial services division of the US Courts, provided change management implementation consultation to Stanford’s School of Medicine Student Support Services, and trained AMTRAK managers in customer service. As a Manager at Fu Associates, performed job analyses for the FAA to update regulations and certification processes for pilots and flight instructors, and designed and implemented supervisory and managerial selection processes for the FAA airway facilities and aircraft certification organizations.

Personal Insight:
Aspires to be a lifelong learner. Likes to connect the dots. Known to tell it like it is. A wannabe photographer—to date, mostly of her two active, reluctantly-photographed boys. Looks forward to shooting photos while traveling with her husband. Proud of creating a multi-million dollar company in less than two years.

Special Expertise:
Nearly twenty years of consulting experience in strategic planning, business process analysis and improvement, facilitation, change management and organizational analysis in the areas of customer relationship management, human capital, and information technology for public and private sector clients. An MBA from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a BA in Psychology and Social Work from West Virginia Wesleyan College and the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation.

Career Highlights – So Far
As a Managing Principal of The Legacy Network, guided the development of competencies – key skills required – for a key government intelligence organization, wrote the first USCIS Strategic Plan, designed and implemented a new organization for the US Patent and Trademark Office and developed a human capital scorecard for an IT Infrastructure company. Prior to founding TLN, as an Associate Partner at IBM Business Consulting Services, managed the USCIS account—implementing the first new service to be provided to customers via its national call center: change of address via phone. Facilitated development of DoD's to-be, end-to-end, paperless acquisition process. As a Project Manager at Fu Associates, implemented a live technology assessment lab for real-world evaluation of systems development tools as well as a multi-year strategic HR program required to implement state-of-the-art technology into the air traffic control system.
